The NSF Research Traineeship (NRT) program on AI for Sustainability (AI4S) provides graduate students with interdisciplinary training to develop and apply artificial intelligence (AI) methods and tools for tackling critical sustainability challenges. The program focuses on AI-driven solutions for decarbonizing energy and agri-food systems, using a multi-scale approach that spans from sustainable materials to global energy-food-climate systems. Through hands-on experience, students collaborate with experts from academia, industry, and nonprofits to advance AI-powered sustainability across diverse fields.
